Heisman Watch: No Tebow?

Although Tim Tebow is only a sophomore, I find it hard to believe that he isn't a part of most Heisman Watches around the nation. It's particularly confusing because many, such as ESPN, have included Oklahoma's redshirt freshman QB, but not Tebow.

Here are the current Heisman "candidates" according to ESPN: Darren McFadden, RB, Arkansas; Brian Brohm, QB, Louisville; DeSean Jackson, WR, Cal; Pat White, QB, West Virginia; Colt Brennan, QB, Hawaii; Ray Rice, RB, Rutgers; Steve Slaton, RB, West Virginia; John David Booty, QB, USC; Andre Woodson, QB, Kentucky; Dennis Dixon, QB, Oregon; and Sam Bradford, QB, Oklahoma.

Now, let's look at how Tebow matches up with the QBs in that group (all through 2 games):

• Brohm: 2 GP; 776 YDs, 9 TD, 0 INT; 26 RYDs, 1 RTD
• White: 2 GP; 341 YDs, 4 TD, 0 INT; 223 RYDs, 3 RTD
• Brennan: 2 GP; 963, 10 TD, 1 INT; 15 RYDs, 1 RTD
• Booty: 1 GP; 206 YDs, 3 TD, 1 INT; 2 RYDs, 0 RTD
• Woodson: 2 GP; 468 YDs, 5 TD, 0 INT; -33 RYDs, 1 RTD
• Dixon: 2 GP; 426 YDs, 5 TD, 0 INT; 217 RYDs, 2 RTD

Looking at stats alone, there's no question that Tebow should be mentioned among the top quarterbacks in the nation. He has more total yards and total TDs than all except Brohm and Brennan, both of whom play much weaker schedules. It seems the only thing keeping him from getting the recognition of a legitimate Heisman candidate is his sophomore status. Perhaps a big win and performance versus the Vols could get him in the picture....

Besides, don't the Heisman voters know that Tebow's tears cure cancer?

Too bad he's never cried.
